BAU: More experts in tourism and hospitality are needed to elevate the local tourism industry in Bau, says Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

He noted that the tourism and hospitality sector is expanding rapidly in Malaysia.

“As its minister, I truly hope that expertise in this field will return to Bau to boost the local tourism industry.

“I am also confident that the government will continue to take various initiatives to ensure that this sector remains a contributor to economic growth in the country,” he said.

He said this in his text speech read out by Krian assemblyman Friday Belik when officiating the Bau Youth Carnival held at Redeems Centre here last night (Nov 30).

Tiong further highlighted that the carnival, organised by the Mas Moyan Kuching Recreation Club, serves as a platform to promote Bau district to local and international tourists.

“Mas Gading is an area rich in beauty and attractions, featuring remarkable tourist destinations such as Tasik Biru, Gua Pari, and Serembu Eco Park.

“These attractions not only entice tourists but also reflect the natural heritage and culture of this region,” he said.

On youth development, Tiong urged young people to improve their education, skills, and competitiveness to contribute effectively to national progress.

He said the youths of today need to participate in programmes organised for youths to prepare themselves to face future challenges.

“Because of this, the government is always considering suitable initiatives to empower youths by providing the facilities, opportunities, and guidance they need to shape successful young individuals in the future.

“We all know that youths are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the leaders of today. Leadership talent should be nurtured from a young age,” he said.

He went on to praise the carnival’s organisation, stating that it provides a platform for youths to showcase their talents in football, beauty pageants, and singing competitions.

“I believe the youths in Bau possess untapped potential that needs to be honed, and this is the right time to do so,” he said.

He also lauded the participation of organisations such as Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS), the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), and Asiana Hospitality Academy.

“I am particularly pleased with Asiana’s involvement, as they have proven success in providing training and employment opportunities in the hospitality sector.

“What makes me even prouder is knowing that one individual from Bau is now working in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
