SIBU: A 70 per cent youth participation is being targeted for the upcoming Town Hall session with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The programme, held in conjunction with the Sarawak Day celebration, will take place on July 22 at the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor Hall, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS).
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the dialogue programme would serve as an ideal platform for youths to interact directly with the Premier.
“I hope the youths in Sibu will take this opportunity to attend the Town Hall session and personally ask the Premier about their hopes, future and inspirations.
“I am confident that the Premier will have answers to all those questions,” he said during a site visit for preparations at UTS on Monday (May 25).
Sibu will host the 2026 Sarawak Day celebration from July 20-22, featuring various community-based activities.
Among the programmes lined up are a sales carnival, Zumba event, and thanksgiving ceremony to be held at several key locations around town.
The highlight on July 22 will feature the Unity Walk, followed by the Town Hall session with the Premier at UTS in the afternoon.
The three-day celebration will conclude with the Sarawak Day Assembly and a public concert.
Abdullah Saidol described this year’s Sarawak Day celebration as especially meaningful as it marks the ninth year of Abang Johari leading the state administration as Premier.
He believes hosting the major event in Sibu is a recognition of the Central Region, which is currently witnessing the implementation of various physical development agendas.
“I believe many major developments, especially in the central zone, involving infrastructure such as roads and bridges, are taking place in this region.
“Take this opportunity for the people in the central zone to see what more lies ahead for Sarawak’s future development,” he said.
