SIBU: Traders at Ramadan bazaars have been reminded that cleanliness must be given serious attention, particularly in the preparation of food and beverages, to ensure the safety and health of consumers at all times.

Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi, the Political Secretary to the Premier, said strict adherence to hygiene standards is crucial throughout the operating period of the bazaars, especially with the high volume of visitors expected during the fasting month.

“We will work closely with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MoH) to monitor cleanliness levels and ensure that all traders comply with the stipulated regulations,” he said when officiating at the Ramadan Bazaar at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang on Wednesday (Feb 18).

Sayed Azmee was representing Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Annuar Rapaee at the launch of the bazaar, which sees 116 traders operating this year.

During the ceremony, aprons were distributed to all participating traders as a symbolic gesture of their readiness to serve customers responsibly throughout Ramadan.

Sayed Azmee pointed out that several improvements have been introduced this year, including the implementation of cashless payments via QR codes to facilitate smoother transactions and enhance convenience for visitors.

“To further enliven the festive atmosphere, a stall lighting competition has also been organised. In addition, a dedicated QR code has been made available at the bazaar site to enable visitors to submit complaints or feedback directly to the organising committee.

“The committee will take immediate action and liaise directly with MoH if it involves hygiene issues or other matters requiring further attention,” he added.
