KUCHING: The public should ensure that the Jalur Gemilang is displayed correctly, including in social media content and images generated using artificial intelligence (AI), throughout the National Month celebrations.
Sarawak Information Department (JaPen) director, Sabri Said said the national flag must be treated respectfully and displayed in accordance with the proper guidelines.
“Any social media post involving the Jalur Gemilang must be produced correctly, respectfully and in compliance with the proper method of displaying it.
“The public should refer to reliable sources to avoid misusing or incorrectly displaying the Jalur Gemilang,” he said during the Ekspresi Jalur Gemilang JaPen @ PETRONAS programme at PETRONAS Metro City here today.
Sabri said common errors included displaying the flag upside down or positioning its crescent-and-star section incorrectly.
“People must also be careful when using AI. Most importantly, ensure that the colours are not reversed. The first stripe must be red, not white.
“The number of points on the star must also be correct to comply with the proper specifications for the Jalur Gemilang,” he said.
Sabri added that clothing or illustrations which caused the national flag to appear incomplete or distorted were not permitted.
He encouraged the public to display the Jalur Gemilang at their homes, offices, business premises and on vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, until Malaysia Day on Sept 16.
“Fly the Jalur Gemilang wherever you are, whether at home, in the office, at business premises or on your vehicles.
“Let us continue this campaign until Sept 16 and ensure that everyone plays a part in enlivening the Kibar Jalur Gemilang campaign,” he said.
The campaign was held in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations under the theme “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka”.
Sabri said displaying the national flag was more than a ceremonial act as it symbolised the country’s sovereignty and unity, as well as the people’s loyalty to Malaysia.
“Flying the Jalur Gemilang is not merely about putting up a flag. It reflects our sovereignty, unity and loyalty to the country.
“We should take the initiative to strengthen our love for the country by displaying and flying the Jalur Gemilang,” he said.
During the programme, JaPen Sarawak and PETRONAS distributed 200 magnetic Jalur Gemilang stickers to customers on a first-come, first-served basis.
“We prepared 200 magnetic Jalur Gemilang stickers for the earliest customers. It is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
“We have distributed more than 50 so far and will continue until all the remaining stickers have been handed out,” Sabri said.
Sabri said the programme was held simultaneously across the country, although the Ekspresi Jalur Gemilang event in Sarawak was conducted only at PETRONAS Metro City.
JaPen would continue promoting the campaign beyond Kuching through its Info On Wheels mobile units operating daily across all 33 districts under the department’s district information offices.
“We will continue our public outreach through the department’s mobile units under the Info On Wheels programme.
“Our district information offices carry out these activities daily across all 33 districts,” he said.
The department would also intensify its social media campaign by publishing two daily posts featuring district-level Jalur Gemilang activities.
