LAWAS: The Sarawak government plans to redevelop Trusan town in phases through the Urban Renewal Programme to create a more modern, organised and economically vibrant township.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the implementation of the Northern Coastal Highway (NCH) project would affect several existing stalls in the area.
Traders involved will be temporarily relocated to a designated site to enable them to continue their business operations.
He added that the Lawas District Council will upgrade basic infrastructure, including access roads to the temporary relocation site, to ensure the comfort and convenience of the traders.
“The stalls affected by the Northern Coastal Highway project will be temporarily relocated to this area so that traders can continue operating as usual while the project is being carried out,” he said this while inspecting the temporary relocation site for traders in Trusan town as reported by UKAS on Sunday (June 7).
He noted that the government has approved the local development plan for the redevelopment of Trusan Town, which includes various components aimed at stimulating local economic activities.
Among the proposed developments are the construction of a sub-district office, rows of shophouses, a weekly market square, a petrol station, a heavy vehicle parking area and several other facilities suited to the needs of the local community.
Awang Tengah said that areas across Trusan Town would continue to be developed, including the provision of housing, sports facilities and the possible construction of residential quarters for civil servants based on current needs.
He added that the plan is intended to transform Trusan Town into a more organised centre for trade and services while enhancing the economic well-being and quality of life of local residents.
