KOTA SAMARAHAN: The TVET MyKomoditi 2026 programme marked a significant step in strengthening industry-driven training with the signing of several memoranda of agreement (MoA) involving government, training institutions and plantation companies.
Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad described the collaboration as a major milestone in aligning skills development with industry needs.
She noted that the collaboration was not merely a formal agreement, but a holistic model combining training, industry exposure and strategic planning.
“Through this initiative, about 300 young apprentices will be trained in specialised technical fields such as harvesting and machinery operations”, she said in her speech during the launch of the programme at Dewan Pertubuhan Peladang Negeri Sarawak (PPNS) Kota Samarahan, on Monday (May 4).
The agreements, facilitated by the Malaysian Plantation and Commodities Institute (IMPAC), involve institutions such as Sarawak Skills, Kolej RISDA and Sabah Skills & Technology Centre, alongside plantation companies, including SD Guthrie, Genting Plantations and TH Plantations.
Sarawak Skills executive director Hallman Sabri said the MoA represents more than a symbolic partnership.
“This is not just a ceremonial exchange, but a strategic step to ensure training is aligned with industry requirements and improves graduate employability.”
The initiative adopts a “train and place” approach, linking technical training directly with employment opportunities in the agricommodity sector.
