SARATOK: Public tip-offs on suspected drug activities led police to arrest two local men who later tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine on Monday (May 11).
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the district police headquarters’ (IPD) special task force team conducted Ops Tapis Khas inspections around Saratok and Kabong.
“The team stopped two men, aged 21 and 26, believed to be drug users, for inspection.
“Both suspects were brought to the Saratok police station for urine screening tests, which returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.
The younger suspect is from Niah, while the other suspect is from Kabong.
Mathew said the case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted, the suspects could face a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both. In addition, they may also be placed under supervision for two years under Section 38B of the same Act.
