BAU: Two local men were sentenced to jail by the Magistrate’s Court here on Monday (Feb 23) after being charged with allowing their bank accounts to be used for illegal transactions, commonly known as mule accounts.

Bau police chief DSP Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the cases were prosecuted separately under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code.

He said the accused had intentionally allowed their bank accounts or payment instruments to be used for unlawful transactions.

“Account holders may face action under Sections 424A, 424B and 424C of the Penal Code, which carry a fine of up to RM150,000 and imprisonment of up to 10 years upon conviction,” he said in a statement.

For the first charge, the accused failed to pay the fine imposed and was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment.

In the second case, the accused also failed to settle the fine and was sentenced to one week in jail.

Mohd Haide reiterated that Bau police would continue to take firm action against offences involving the misuse of bank accounts.
