BETONG: Two longhouses in the Betong parliamentary constituency have benefited from the People-Friendly Project (PMR) funded by the federal government.
Betong Member of Parliament, Datuk Dr Richard Rapu, said both projects involved the upgrading of road infrastructure.
“At Rumah Panjang Jumat, Lakis Entawa, a road was constructed from the longhouse to the river, while at Nanga Lop, the project involved tarring the existing road.
“Both projects were eagerly awaited by residents of the respective longhouses,” he said.
He explained that the proposed projects are among key initiatives by the federal government to enhance basic infrastructure, especially in rural areas, in efforts to improve residents’ daily mobility and access.
He stressed that this is in line with the government’s commitment to develop rural areas in an inclusive, fair and high-impact manner for the well-being of the people.
In addition to road infrastructure development, Richard added that PMR funds were also used to upgrade office facilities and install Light Emitting Diode (LED) screens and public announcement systems at the Betong Division Resident’s Office meeting room and the Betong District Office.
“These are important initiatives under PMR allocations aimed at strengthening public service delivery efficiency and improving administrative facilities at the district and divisional levels,” he said.
Earlier, he was represented by his service centre staff, together with representatives from the Sarawak State Development Office (SDO) and the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM), for a site visit to the proposed project locations.
