BAU: Two local men were arrested in separate operations recently, one for alleged online gambling and the other for drug abuse.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the first arrest was made under ‘Ops Dadu’ at a café in Siniawan Central, Jalan Bau-Kuching on Saturday (Apr 25).

“The 51-year-old suspect was detained after police checks on his phone allegedly uncovered an online gambling application.

“His smartphone and RM30 in cash were seized, and the case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953,” he said, adding that the suspect has no prior record.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, a 36-year-old labourer was arrested at the district police headquarters (IPD) yesterday (Apr 26).

A urine screening conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) found him positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Mohd Haide stated that the suspect admitted to having last consumed syabu a day before his arrest.

He stated that the suspect, who has a prior record for the same offence, is currently held at Bau police lock-up for further investigations under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
