MIRI: Two men have been remanded for four days to assist in an investigation involving the use of criminal force and obstruction against forest officers carrying out their lawful duties last Saturday.
The Sarawak Forest Department said the remand order was granted by the Magistrate’s Court to facilitate the investigation.
Both men are being investigated under Section 103 of the Forest Ordinance for using violence and obstructing civil servants in the execution of their duties.
In addition, they are also being probed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
The incident reportedly occurred in Telang Usan, where the two men were part of a group that confronted Sarawak Forest Department enforcement officers during an operation.
The suspects allegedly assaulted and injured the officers, in addition to issuing verbal threats during the confrontation.
A third individual involved in the incident remains at large and is being tracked down by authorities.
If convicted, the suspects could face a fine up to RM150,000, a jail term of up to seven years, or both.
Members of the public are reminded to comply with the law and refrain from staging protests, obstructing, threatening, or causing harm to civil servants carrying out their official duties.
