KUCHING: Two long-time Sports Toto players have struck life-changing jackpot wins worth more than RM15.3 million, proving that perseverance and a little luck can pay off.
The winners, both retirees and loyal Toto customers for decades, recently claimed major jackpot prizes after years of faithfully placing modest bets.
One of the winners, a 62-year-old retired salesman from Perak, won RM11.8 million from the Toto 4D Jackpot 1 draw held on May 31 using numbers inspired by his grandchildren’s birth certificates.
“My grandchildren have brought so much joy and happiness to our family, but I never imagined they would one day change our lives in such an extraordinary way,” he said in a press statement today (June 18).
Having played Sports Toto games for the past 30 years, the winner regularly spent between RM10 and RM20 per draw and described the jackpot win as something he never expected.
“I was overwhelmed and speechless when I checked the results. I looked at the numbers repeatedly because I thought I had made a mistake,” he said.
The winning pair of numbers, 1660 and 5093, earned him RM11,806,469.85 from a ticket that cost only RM2.
The remaining RM195,148.20 of the jackpot was won by a Kuala Lumpur player through an i-System ticket.
The retiree said the prize money would be managed carefully, with priority given to supporting his family and securing a brighter future for his grandchildren.
Meanwhile, a 65-year-old retired construction worker from Penang became another fortunate winner after taking home RM3,499,722.25 from the Star Toto 6/50 Jackpot 1 draw on June 10.
“I checked the numbers many times. The first thing I did was to wake my wife up and ask her to verify the ticket because I thought I might have been seeing things,” he said.
A regular buyer of RM10 Lucky Pick tickets, the winner said checking results through the Sports Toto mobile application before bedtime had become part of his daily routine.
“My wife and I have discussed our plans carefully. We intend to place the money in fixed deposits and use the interest income to support our retirement needs,” he said.
The winning numbers for the Star Toto 6/50 draw were 3, 8, 11, 25, 38 and 42.
