KUCHING: The Tzu Chi Foundation will commemorate its 60th anniversary this May with a series of spiritual events, including a grand Buddha Bathing Ceremony featuring a massive 2,000-person human formation.
The Kuching Liaison Office announced that the celebrations will kick off with a ‘Prostrating Pilgrimage’ this Friday (May 1) in conjunction with Labour Day, followed by the grand ceremony on May 10.
Marking a significant return to outdoor celebrations after several years, the Buddha Bathing Ceremony will be held at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Jubilee Ground.
The event coincides with a triple celebration: Buddha Day, Mother’s Day, and Global Tzu Chi Day.
A key highlight of the May 10 event is the formation of a 2,000-human pattern featuring the elements ‘TC60’ and ‘KCH30’, representing the foundation’s 60th global anniversary and its 30th year in Kuching.
The grand ceremony is scheduled from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, with public bathing sessions continuing until 8:00 pm.
Participants joining the formation are advised to wear plain white or black tops and arrive early to follow guides’ instructions; no advance rehearsals are required.
In preparation for the milestone event, Tzu Chi volunteers have mobilised across the region – including visits to temples in Betong, Sri Aman and Lundu – to invite monastics and Dharma friends to lead the congregation in prayer.
The foundation has also reached out to local primary and secondary schools to promote environmental awareness and filial piety, encouraging the community to celebrate Mother’s Day through acts of gratitude.
Those interested in joining the formation or volunteering can contact the Tzu Chi Kuching Office at 082-344706 or 016-8864706 for registration.
