Uggah announces financial allocations for Bukit Saban longhouses

DEBAK: Five longhouses in the Bukit Saban constituency received various financial allocations announced by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during his Ngabang Gawai visits here on Wednesday (Jun 3).

The second day of his Gawai visits covered Bangkit Rembai Baru Longhouse, Suri Tengah Longhouse, Menyalin Baru Longhouse, Babu Kerangan Longhouse and Inar Longhouse.

During the visits, Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, announced an allocation of RM10,000 for the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of each longhouse visited, while their respective women’s bureaus received RM5,000 each.

He also approved RM5,000 per family under the Sarawak Poor People’s Housing Improvement Programme (PPRMS) for repair works at Bangkit Rembai Baru Longhouse and Suri Tengah Longhouse.

Additionally, Suri Tengah Longhouse received RM20,000 for drainage system maintenance, while 25 families at Menyalin Baru Longhouse were allocated RM5,000 each for house repairs through the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA).

At Babu Kerangan Longhouse, Uggah approved RM50,000 for the construction of a Women’s Bureau storage facility to store community equipment.

Speaking during the visits, he reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with Betong MP Datuk Dr Richard Rapu to ensure the continuous development and welfare of the people in Bukit Saban.

He emphasised that the Sarawak government is constantly exploring new approaches to raise the socioeconomic standards of the rural population, particularly through the agriculture and livestock sectors.

Uggah also urged the younger generation to preserve and uplift the Iban cultural heritage, praising Bukit Saban youths for keeping traditional arts like the Ngajat dance alive amidst modern technological advancements.

Earlier, Uggah and his wife, Datin Amar Datuk Doreen Mayang, accompanied by Political Secretary to the Premier Roseline Mapong and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bukit Saban Women’s Chief Natasha Nasa Uggah, participated in the Ngiling Bidai ceremony at Babu Kerangan Longhouse.
