SAMARAHAN: The Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration organised by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak was graced by the presence of Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
The esteemed guests were received by UiTM Sarawak rector, Professor Dr Firdaus Abdullah, and his wife, accompanied by students reciting the ‘Selawat Nabi’, creating a spiritual and respectful atmosphere.
The celebration included Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and his wife, Datin Seri Zuraini Abdul Jaabar.
Also present were UiTM Pro-Chancellor, Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz, and his wife, Datin Dayang Rosnah Abang Rashid, alongside other dignitaries.
In his welcoming address, Firdaus expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the honour of hosting Wan Junaidi and Fauziah at the celebration, describing their presence as a testament to their compassion and connection with the people, regardless of status or rank.
“This occasion is not only to celebrate the ongoing Aidilfitri festivity but also to foster unity and goodwill within the UiTMCS community while providing an opportunity for the Head of State to engage with us,” Firdaus said.
A symbolic presentation of the Early Study Assistance (BAP) to 20 selected students from the B40 group highlighted the university’s ongoing commitment to student welfare.
This assistance was contributed by Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR), in recognition of the financial challenges faced by many students.
“Most of our students at UiTMCS come from B40 families.
“We have introduced initiatives such as food banks and the HEP kitchen to ensure no student is left behind due to food insecurity or financial hardship.
“We want them to focus on learning without daily life burdens,” added Firdaus.
He further elaborated on UiTMCS’ holistic education approach, specifically the Plus Tahfiz Programme, which provides opportunities for Tahfiz graduates to pursue academic and professional qualifications while maintaining their Quranic memorisation.
Currently, 29 students are enrolled in the programme, with nine having memorised the full 30 Juzuk of the Quran.
The UiTM Sarawak Branch’s recent accomplishments were also proudly highlighted during the event, reflecting the institution’s ongoing pursuit of excellence.
Among the prestigious accolades received were the Bronze Award at the Sarawak Public Service Quality Awards (AKPANS), the Merit Award at the 11th Premier of Sarawak Environmental Award (PSEA), and the Academic Management Excellence Award 2024.
The university also clinched First Place for a High-Impact Project during META 25 in 2023, earned recognition for Co-Curricular Academic Management Excellence through its Student Affairs Division (HEP), and received the University KPI Achievement Award under the UiTM Branch category at the Meeting of Student Affairs Administrators 2024 (MOSAA’24).
“These accolades reflect the tireless efforts of every staff and student at UiTMCS.
“Congratulations and thank you to all who have contributed, directly or indirectly,” Firdaus said.
