KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) produced a collection of Sarawak batik designs featuring local flora and ethnic motifs, including Malay, Iban, Melanau and Orang Ulu.
The collection was presented to the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, during a courtesy call at the official residence in Kasuma Resort, Petra Jaya, today.
The UNIMAS delegation was led by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit. and his wife, Prof. Dr Ramlah Zainudin.
Wan Junaidi expressed appreciation for the designs, describing them as attractive and beautiful, while encouraging UNIMAS to create more variations suitable for both men and women.
He also suggested UNIMAS prepare a comprehensive proposal covering design, budgeting, research, development and training for the production of Sarawak-identity batik.
