SIBU: The Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu Branch welcomes the announcement by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Sibu, that 12 essential items have been placed under the Gawai Dayak Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak 2026 celebration.
Branch Chairman Chambai Lindong noted that the scheme, in force from today (May 27) to June 4, covers items commonly used by the Dayak communities during Gawai, including live old chicken, chicken wings, imported buffalo meat from India, live pigs (farm only), pork belly, pork meat and fat, garlic from China, imported round cabbage from Indonesia and China excluding Beijing cabbage, dried curly chillies, whole coconuts for wholesale, grated coconut for retail, and coconut milk for retail.
“This timely intervention by KPDN Sibu under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 helps to curb unreasonable price hikes and ensures that families in and around Sibu can celebrate Gawai without undue financial burden.
“SDNU Sibu commends KPDN Sibu chief Roslee Maslie and his team for their proactive enforcement and monitoring,” he said in a statement here yesterday (May 26).
Chambai called upon all traders here to comply fully with the maximum price regulations and to display pink price tags clearly as required. Strict action against those who profiteer or fail to comply is necessary to protect consumers.
“At the same time, we urge the public to check the official price lists and to be vigilant. If you encounter traders selling above the controlled price or failing to display proper price tags, please lodge a complaint via the EzADU app, the KPDN website (e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my), or via email to e-aduan@kpdn.gov.my, or contact the KPDN Sibu Office at 084-335 622 or 019-279 4317 on WhatsApp.
“SDNU Sibu remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of the Dayak communities in and around Sibu and across Sarawak during this festive occasion. Let us celebrate Gawai Dayak 2026 in the spirit of unity, fairness, and gratitude,” he added.
