MIRI: Sarawakians are reminded to uphold and safeguard the peace, stability and harmony of the community from being manipulated and jeopardised by extremist influences.

“Unity in diversity ― it is not a slogan, but our lifestyle,” said Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin during an Orang Ulu ladies group ‘New Year 2020 Get Together’ dinner at a leading hotel here on Friday.

His text of speech was read out by Miri mayor Adam Yii.

Lee said, every Sarawakian has the responsibility to preserve their culture and to promote it to the world.

He added that the younger generation plays an important role in preserving and promoting the arts and culture.

“The younger generations are creative and innovative with new ideas, and it would be interesting if there are more collaboration and cultural interaction among different ethnicities and communities.

“Orang Ulu has beautiful and colourful art and handicraft products like beads and traditional costumes, and wonderful instruments like the ‘sape’. They are unique and attractive, which you could hardly find in other countries,” Lee said.
