SIBURAN:  About three tonnes of waste were collected following a large-scale environmental clean-up participated by over 120 volunteers at Taman Duranda Emas here on Saturday (Jan 17).

The initiative, organised by ASEZ — the university student volunteer group of the World Mission Society Church of God —brought together students, local residents, and family members for a two-hour operation that covered a three-kilometre stretch from commercial areas to nearby residential neighbourhoods.

“I am very grateful to ASEZ for taking the initiative to organise a clean-up activity like today,” said Deputy Minister for Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil who attended the event.

“This activity is truly meaningful and very helpful to all the residents around the community here,” he said.

The District Council Office here supported the activity by providing cleaning supplies.

Volunteers removed discarded plastic cups, straws, cigarette butts, and snack wrappers from the developing area, which still contains numerous vacant lots and unmaintained streets.

Of the total waste collected, 20 kilograms consisted of plastic materials.

ASEZ has maintained an active presence throughout Malaysia, conducting clean-up operations in urban areas, streets, parks, and beaches across Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Sabah, Selangor, Pulau Pinang, and Johor Bahru.

In February, the organisation planted 150 trees at Pantai Sejaie Beach as part of carbon reduction initiatives.

The group continues to run environmental awareness campaigns while exploring strategies for sustainable planetary development.

These sustained efforts have earned ASEZ recognition both nationally and internationally, from various authorities, including the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Communications of Sarawak, the President of the United States, and the Speaker of the National Assembly of Peru.

Beyond environmental work, ASEZ engages in crime prevention, climate change response, community service, and disaster relief initiatives across multiple nations.
