SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch chairman, Councillor Kevin Lau, has assured the public that the Sarawak government is highly attentive to livelihood issues, particularly in the area of water supply.

He said that in response to the challenge of water usage exceeding supply capacity, the state government has initiated an upgrade project for the Salim Water Treatment Plant.

“The project is expected to take two years to complete and is anticipated to be ready by 2026.

“The completion of this project will significantly improve water pressure issues across various areas and alleviate the water supply difficulties faced by the public,” he said.

He said this after attending the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) of Sibu’s Sungai Parah programme in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration here today (Jan 19).

Lau also encouraged the public to continue maintaining close ties with the government and the community to further enhance regional development.

Meanwhile, during the programme, Lau expressed his gratitude to the residents for their enthusiastic participation despite the rain, in receiving Chinese New Year food packages.

He said that the purpose of the event was to unite the community’s strength and usher in a positive start to the lunar new year for the region.

“In Chinese tradition, a good beginning signifies a smooth and peaceful year ahead. I hope everyone experiences favourable weather, prosperity, and harmony in the new year, and that the nation enjoys peace and stability,” he added.
