SIBU: Graduates of the Malaysian Vocational Certificate (SVM) Cohort 2024 were encouraged to embrace lifelong learning and continuously enhance their competencies in order to remain relevant in an increasingly competitive and technology-driven world.

Acting Sibu District Education officer Hassan Idris, in his officiating address at the SVM Cohort 2024 Graduation Ceremony 2026 at the Vocational College here recently, highlighted the rapid changes taking place across the global landscape due to technological advancement, digital transformation, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI).

He said these developments are reshaping industries worldwide and transforming the skills required in the modern workforce.

“As industries continue to evolve, future workers must possess not only technical expertise but also adaptability and a willingness to continuously acquire new knowledge.”

A total of 102 certificate and award recipients were honoured during the ceremony.

The certificate and award recipients were students from five programmes of the 2024 cohort namely from the Accounting, Business Management, Electronic Technology, Cosmetology and Fashion Design.

Hassan also urged graduates not to become complacent with their current achievements, but instead to view their SVM certificate as the beginning of a broader educational and professional journey.

“Never be satisfied with the knowledge and skills you possess today. Let the certificate you receive serve as a stepping stone towards higher education, professional certifications, and greater expertise in your chosen field.”

Expressing confidence in the graduates’ future prospects, Hassan said SVM graduates possess tremendous potential to become skilled professionals, successful entrepreneurs, creative innovators, and capable leaders who will contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.

He noted that a graduation ceremony represents far more than academic recognition.

“Rather, it symbolises the perseverance, determination, resilience, and commitment demonstrated by students throughout their studies.

“Every certificate awarded carries a story of sacrifice, hard work, commitment, and dedication. The journey as a vocational student requires a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills.”

According to him, the graduates had undergone comprehensive learning experiences, including workshop training, practical assessments, competency evaluations, and numerous assignments that demanded discipline and dedication.

“These experiences provide valuable preparation for graduates as they enter the workforce and face the challenges of modern life.”

Hassan also took the opportunity to pay tribute to parents and guardians for their unwavering support and sacrifices throughout their children’s educational journey.

“The success we celebrate does not belong solely to the students. It is the result of countless prayers, continuous encouragement, and significant sacrifices of time, energy, and financial resources made by parents and guardians to ensure their children receive the best possible education.”

He further expressed his appreciation to the college’s lecturers and educators for their dedication, patience, and commitment in shaping the future generation.

“The role of educators extends beyond imparting knowledge. They nurture character, guide potential, and prepare young people to face future challenges. Their contributions are invaluable and will always be remembered.”

Among those in attendance were technologist Ederin Amid, Sibu Vocational College director Kamarulzaime Kamarulzaman and the College’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairperson Inspector Nurul Farhana Fadzil.
