KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi today expressed profound sorrow over the deaths of five individuals in the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Baram, today.

The couple extended their condolences and sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims, namely Captain Zainol, Dr Ainul Baroah Kamaruddin, medical assistant Alexson Adit, and nurses Debra Moset and Jessie Paya.

In a statement issued by Astana Negeri Sarawak, they said the loss was deeply felt, particularly as four of the victims were healthcare personnel carrying out their duty of delivering essential medical services to Sarawak’s rural communities.

“The work they carried out through the FDS was invaluable to the people of Sarawak, particularly rural communities that depend on the service for medical treatment and healthcare.

“Their sacrifices and dedicated service will always be remembered. They lost their lives while fulfilling their responsibilities and serving communities in need,” the statement said.

Wan Junaidi and Fauziah also prayed that the victims’ families would be granted strength, fortitude and patience during this deeply painful time.

They also expressed their appreciation to security personnel, firefighters and rescuers, healthcare workers, relevant authorities and local communities involved in the operation at the crash site.

“We pray that the Muslim victims would be blessed by Allah SWT and placed among the faithful and righteous, while the non-Muslim victims would rest in peace,” the statement added.
