KUCHING: A teenage motorcyclist was arrested after a video showing him performing a wheelie along Jalan Astana towards the Abang Kipali Roundabout went viral on Facebook.
The Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department said the 17-year-old was identified following investigations into the video uploaded by the Sarawak Roads Update (SRU) Facebook page.
“Following checks and investigations, the Kuching traffic police managed to identify the owner of the motorcycle involved.
“The teenager turned up at the traffic police station on Aug 27 to assist with investigations before he was arrested for allegedly committing the dangerous stunt,” the department said.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
Motorcyclists, particularly teenagers, are reminded that public roads are not meant for racing or performing dangerous stunts for social media attention.
The department said such actions could result in serious injuries or fatalities, while those involved could also face legal action.
“Don’t let the desire to go viral end with you having to face the law,” the department said.
Parents and guardians are also urged to pay attention to their children’s activities and use of motorcycles to prevent accidents and other incidents.
