BAU: Police arrested a 23-year-old woman for alleged involvement in illegal lottery sales at Jalan Temenggong Salau here on Monday (Nov 1).
Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the operation, codenamed Ops Dadu was carried out around 3.30pm by a team of personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department.
The team spotted the suspect at a coffee shop and detained her for inspections. She is believed to have been conducting the illegal lottery sales using her phone.
The phone was seized as well as some cash and a black bag as evidence.
“The woman and the seized items were taken to the police station for further action,” he said.
The suspect, who do not have any past record, will be investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
If convicted, the suspect is liable to be fined up to RM200,000 or jailed up to five years.
