MIRI: A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to five months in prison after pleading guilty to concealing stolen property and dealing in stolen goods.

The sentence was handed down by the Magistrates’ Court under Section 414 of the Penal Code. The charge related to his role in helping conceal a stolen gold necklace and engaging in transactions involving stolen property.

The case stemmed from a house break-in at a residence in Taman Tunku on May 4.

According to investigators, the homeowner discovered that an unknown intruder had forced open a kitchen window and entered the house at about 3.30am. The victim later found that a handbag containing personal identification documents and several items of jewellery had been stolen.

The missing valuables included a gold necklace, two gold bracelets, two gold rings and a child’s gold bracelet.

Police investigations subsequently led to the recovery of part of the stolen property and the prosecution of the accused for concealing and dealing in the stolen jewellery.

Miri District police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the force remained committed to ensuring that anyone involved in criminal activities, including those who assist offenders by concealing or handling stolen property, would face firm action under the law.

Members of the public with information on criminal activities are urged to contact the Miri District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station. Police said continued public cooperation remains essential in combating crime and safeguarding community security.
