MIRI: A woman was rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped inside a Toyota Avanza following a collision with a Mazda along Jalan Morsjaya here early today.
The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 6.52am and dispatched a rescue team from Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue Station. Firefighters arrived at the scene within seven minutes.
On arrival, the firefighters found the female passenger trapped in the front passenger seat of the Toyota Avanza after the impact.
The incident commander instructed firefighters to use hydraulic rescue equipment to cut through the damaged vehicle and free the victim. The operation was carried out carefully to avoid causing further injury.
Once extricated, the woman was handed over to Ministry of Health personnel for medical treatment.
The rescue operation ended shortly before 8am after firefighters secured the scene and confirmed there were no further risks.
Six firefighters took part in the operation.
The cause of the collision has yet to be established, and no further information on the victim’s condition or the occupants of the second vehicle was immediately available.
