KUCHING: A foreign woman was sentenced to five months’ jail by the Sessions Court today (Dec 15) for entering the country without a valid travel document in early December.

Vui, 24, from Singkawang, Kalimantan-Indonesia, pleaded guilty to the charge which was read by an interpreter before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman.

The judge ordered the sentence to run from the date of her arrest on Dec 4.

She will also be referred to the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) after serving the prison sentence.

According to the charges, on Dec 4, at around 7.50pm at a condominium at Jalan Petanak, the authorities arrested Vui who entered the country without a valid permit.

She committed an offence under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which carries a maximum penalty of a fine of RM10,000 in default a jail term not exceeding five years or both, and not exceeding six strokes.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff prosecuted while Vui was not represented.
