MIRI: A wooden stilt house in a rural village in Bekenu collapsed before dawn today, though no injuries were reported as its occupants were away at the time.
The house, located in Kampung Subak A in Bekenu, is believed to have given way at around 5.50am, reducing the entire structure to debris within minutes.
Firefighters from the Batu Niah station were dispatched shortly after receiving an emergency call at 6.45am, travelling about 46 km to reach the scene.
Upon arrival, they found the elevated timber house, measuring approximately 30 by 40 feet, had completely collapsed.

Officials said the structure was too unstable to enter.
Based on Bomba assessment, they found the remains of the house posed a safety risk, and we advised villagers not to approach the site.
The area was secured while firefighters carried out precautionary checks to ensure there were no secondary hazards. No other emergency agencies were present.
Operations were brought under control within minutes of arrival and concluded at around 8.30am.
The cause of the collapse has yet to be determined.
