TATAU: Two blocks of workers’ quarters at a WTK plantation here were completely destroyed in an early morning fire today (April 29).
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 1:40 am incident.
Firefighters from Tatau station were dispatched to the scene, about 43 kilometres away, following an emergency call.
Upon arrival, the team found both blocks already engulfed in flames and performed the extinguishing deed.
It was reported that firefighting efforts were hampered by difficult access to the scene due to plantation road conditions.
Despite the challenges, the blaze was eventually brought under control at 3:30 am.
The exact number of tenants affected was not immediately known. The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operations at 4:45 am.
