SEOUL, South Korea: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has taken another step forward in its mission to create a child-friendly and age-friendly city through a working visit to the Guro District Social Welfare Centre here.

Mayor of MBKS, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, was accompanied by Deputy Mayor, Datuk Zaiedi Suhaili, and Senior Assistant Secretary, Lilian Liew, during the official trip, which focused on exploring collaborative opportunities for inclusive urban development.

“What we have seen today in Guro District is a forward-looking model of community care where technology, inclusivity and human compassion converge.

“This visit provides valuable insights as Kuching South advances its mission to create a city that nurtures both our young and elderly populations,” said Wee through a press statement on Friday.

During the visit, the delegation was introduced to Guro District’s cutting-edge ageing programmes, including the Smart Companion Robot ‘Hyodol’ Project, Digital Inclusion Programmes for the Elderly, and Smart Health and Welfare Services that integrate technology with community care.

The centre, which serves nearly 375,000 annual users, has pioneered initiatives such as the Visiting Health and Welfare Rider Project and Customised Cognitive Health Programmes, addressing the needs of elderly residents, vulnerable groups, and single-person households.

“These projects closely align with Kuching South’s aspiration to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable communities,” he said.

The delegation also expressed particular interest in Guro’s public, private and academic partnerships, which enable integrated health, education and welfare services, offering a valuable roadmap for collaborative governance in Kuching South
