MIRI: The WOW SmartCut Gaya N75 Senadin programme has entered the Malaysia Book of Records after providing 1,370 free haircuts during a single event.
Senadin assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the achievement not only recognised the organisers’ efforts but also brought pride to Miri and Sarawak.
“This achievement reflects the strong spirit of cooperation within the community as well as the willingness of hairstylists and volunteers to contribute their time and expertise for the benefit of the people,” he said.
He said this when officiating at the closing ceremony of the programme at Permy Mall in Bandar Baru Permyjaya, here yesterday (Jul 5).
Lee, who is also Transport Minister, expressed gratitude to the Persatuan Kebajikan Prihatin Miri (WOW), the state constituency service centre, the 40 participating barbers and hairstylists, volunteers and members of the public for making the programme a success.
Encouraged by the overwhelming response, Lee said he hoped the programme could be organised annually in the Senadin constituency.
He also welcomed greater participation from barbers, volunteers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), private companies and the local community to further expand the initiative.
Besides providing free haircuts, the programme also served as a platform to strengthen community ties and promote a culture of helping one another.
