KUCHING: The remarkable 43-year career journey of Datuk Mersal Abang Rosli, from a humble administrative assistant to director of Yayasan Sarawak, should serve as a shining example for all civil servants, said State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

Abu Bakar, who is also the Deputy Chairman of Yayasan Sarawak, praised the former director’s commitment, perseverance and self-development throughout more than four decades of service.

“This is a career development that should be a model for our young officers.

“If we show good potential and deliver excellent service, there is nothing impossible about reaching greater heights,” he said during the Yayasan Sarawak Majlis Jasamu Dikenang in conjunction with Mersal’s retirement at Hilton Hotel here on Wednesday.

Abu Bakar also urged staff of Yayasan Sarawak to emulate Mersal’s dedication and success, highlighting how he had consistently demonstrated excellence since the beginning of his service in public administration.

He added that Mersal’s achievements demonstrate how Yayasan Sarawak goes beyond being merely an educational institution, serving as a platform that nurtures and produces leaders with integrity and capability.

“Yayasan Sarawak has produced many figures who now lead various government agencies and departments.

“This is the result of a strong work culture and the spirit of kinship that is always practised within the institution,” he said.

At the same time, he also welcomed Datuk Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin as the new director of Yayasan Sarawak, noting his extensive experience in the public sector.

“Junaidi has held many key positions, including district officer, resident, secretary of the Public Services Commission, executive secretary of the State Cabinet Meeting Council, and director of the Protocol Unit.

“His most recent role was as director of the Administrative Unit,” he said.

He added that Junaidi’s background, particularly in areas closely linked with district administration and government assets, would be a valuable asset in leading Yayasan Sarawak into its next chapter.

“I call on all our colleagues in the public service to extend their fullest cooperation to Junaidi, just as you did with Datuk Mersal. At Yayasan Sarawak, we work together as one family,” he said.

Yayasan Sarawak announced the appointment of its new director, effective April 16.
