SELANGAU: About 1,200 students and youths from Selangau and Sibu are expected to attend the Karnival Belia Pribumi Selangau 2026 here on July 25.
The one-day programme is jointly organised by the Sarawak Indigenous Intellectuals Association (PERANTIS), Parti Rakyat Sarawak Youth Exco and ADTEC Bintulu.
Organising chairman Wellie Henry Majang said the carnival would serve as a platform for youths, particularly school leavers in rural and suburban areas, to obtain information on further education, skills training and career pathways.
“The programme will give school leavers an opportunity to receive accurate information and register for courses of their choice,” he said.
Activities include culinary workshops, an investment and trading competition, e-sports competitions, and career and education counselling booths.
The participating institutions include ADTEC Bintulu, the Sarawak Regional Skills Development Department, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Teknologi MARA Sarawak, Universiti Teknologi Sarawak, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Sarawak Skills and GIATMARA Sarawak.
Wellie said youth development must extend beyond academic achievement.
“We strongly believe in a holistic approach to education that goes beyond academics to include technical skills, character development and digital literacy.
“Youth empowerment must be comprehensive and inclusive. We need to ensure that every young person, regardless of background, has access to real opportunities to improve their future,” he said.
The carnival is supported by Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang, who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak Youth chief.
