SARIKEI: A total of 16,605 Kenyalang Gold Cards (KGC) have been distributed in the division as of Dec 31 last year.

In revealing this, Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the holders are benefitting from services offered by 31 KGC partners, with Selamart set to become the 32nd partner.

She said other benefits include death compassionate assistance (BIK) provided to the next-of-kin of deceased KGC holders.

“BIK is a grant distributed to the heirs of KGC holders who have passed away to cover funeral expenses.

“Since 2020 until December 31, 2023, a total of 1,368 BIK applications have been approved, involving an expenditure of RM4,104,000 for the Sarikei division,” she said.

She said this during a ceremony to present plaques to KGC strategic partners at Selamart Store on Tuesday (February 27).

Fatimah said the discounts and services that are offered by KGC apply to all card holders throughout Sarawak.

She also called for other businesses to participate and cooperate with the social welfare department (JKMS) as KGC strategic partners as a welfare initiative.

Also present during the ceremony were officials and community leaders.
