SIBU: A 53-year-old man was today (April 27) ordered to serve six months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here for committing two criminal offences.
In the first charge, Kong Chak Chieng, 53, of Jalan Oya was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for obstructing police corporal Jinny Linggi and police constable Nelson Yong to discharge their public functions.
He was also sentenced to six months’ jail for the second charge of voluntarily caused grievous hurt to police corporal Jinny.
Both incidents occurred at the compound of the Sibu Central Police Station on Nov 1 last year at about 8.50 pm.
Magistrate Romario Jonoi who convicted the accused on his own plea of guilt, ordered both sentences to run concurrently from the date of his conviction.
According to the facts of the case, on Nov 1 last year at about 8.50 pm, in front of the Sibu Central Police Station, three police officers were approached by the accused who appeared to be angry and hurled vulgar words towards them.
Subsequently, the accused was placed under arrest for further action.
Investigation revealed that the accused came to the police station to lodge a report regarding his missing child.
However his statement was inconsistent and he began to behave aggressively and shouted in a loud tone.
When reprimanded by a police officer, the accused started to hurt abusive words at him.
During the arrest, the accused had acted aggressively, causing Corporal Jinny to sustain an injury on the right third finger.
