KUCHING: Patients at 175 health clinics (KK) across Sarawak no longer need to carry paper case notes, as authorised doctors and nurses can now access medical histories, investigations and medications online.
The initiative is part of the state’s digital‑health transformation that had earned the Sarawak State Health Department (JKNS) the ‘State Government Strategic Network in Digital Health Transformation Award’.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian congratulated the department, saying the initiative positions Sarawak at the forefront of digital healthcare in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 plan.
He noted that the system currently covers 175 KK, serving 70 per cent of KK patients in the state, and allows authorised staff to access patients’ records online.
“It is great to follow up with the next stage of implementation, with healthcare artificial intelligence (AI) application, medical diagnostics, predictive analytics, telemedicine (virtual consultations), and hospital efficiency,” he said in his Facebook post.
Dr Sim thanked Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for allocating RM10 million for Phase 1 of digitalisation, which will cover 150 KK for the period from 2024 to 2025.
“We will work with various other agencies in getting the remaining 94 KK in Sarawak with internet infrastructure ready so that we can make Sarawak the first in Malaysia not just with the most digitalised KK (175 KK), but all 271 KK digitalised by 2026,” said Dr Sim.
