SIBU: A total of 22 people were detained during anti-drug operations for three consecutive days carried out by the Sibu District National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) under ‘Operation Perdana Bilangan 3 Tahun 2026’, which concluded this morning.
The operations involved seven AADK officers and personnel, led by Sibu District AADK Head, Azimah Marsid.
Preliminary urine screening found that all 22 detainees, comprising 18 men and four women aged between 19 and 50, tested positive for methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu.
All of them are being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug and Substance Abusers and Addicts (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
If found to be drug dependants, they may be ordered to undergo treatment and rehabilitation either at the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN) or through a community-based rehabilitation programme.
AADK in a statement said the operations reflected its continued commitment to protecting the community from the threat of drug abuse while supporting the MADANI government’s agenda of building a safer and more prosperous nation.
The agency also urged members of the public to continue cooperating by providing information on drug abuse and substance misuse in their respective areas.
Those seeking advice or wishing to lodge a report may contact the AADK hotline at 1-800-22-2235 or send a WhatsApp message to 019-626 2233.
