KUCHING: A total of 236 dogs were vaccinated during a mass vaccination, licensing, microchipping and subsidised neutering programme organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) here on Sunday.
The programme held in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS), Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Sarawak Veterinary Association (SSPCA) took place at Mayor Song Swee Guan Park in Tabuan Jaya.

The anti-rabies vaccination campaign coordinated by DVSS drew 152 dog owners, with 56 dogs receiving their first dose of vaccination and 180 receiving booster shots.
At the same time, MBKS issued 290 dog licences and facilitated the installation of 60 microchips for registered dogs as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen responsible pet ownership, improve pet traceability and support rabies control enforcement measures.
The subsidised neutering programme, jointly conducted by MBKS, SSPCA, and the Sarawak Veterinary Association, also received 27 applications from pet owners seeking assistance with neutering.
The initiative aims to encourage humane and responsible population control of stray and unwanted animals.
Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, expressed appreciation to all agencies, volunteers, veterinarians and members of the public for their strong cooperation and support towards the programme.
Stressing that rabies prevention is a shared responsibility he said continuous public participation remains crucial in ensuring a safer and healthier environment for both the community and animals.
He encouraged pet owners to vaccinate and license their dogs annually, microchip their pets and practise responsible pet ownership.
