GEDONG: Eight villages in Ulu Gedong have benefitted from the distribution of 280 water tanks by the state government, reinforcing efforts to improve access to clean water in rural areas.

The villages that received the assistance are Kampung Keniong Baru, Kampung Keniong Jaya, Kampung Kepayang Lama, Kampung Sengkalan, Kampung Tebun, Kampung Gayau Padok, Kampung Semalatong, and Kampung Sungai Semaban.

This initiative is part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring a reliable supply of clean water for rural communities.

The handover ceremony was officiated by Gedong District Officer Tamida Da’adi, who presented the water tanks to the respective village chiefs.

Also in attendance was the advisor to the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED), Datuk Seri Mohd Naroden Majais.

Representing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Naroden, who is also the Gedong assemblyman, emphasised the importance of the water tank distribution in ensuring that villagers have access to clean water, particularly during supply disruptions that frequently affect remote areas.

The recipients expressed their gratitude to the Sarawak government for its support, highlighting their appreciation for the initiative.

They also hoped for the continuation of such efforts to further enhance the quality of life in rural communities.

The programme underscores the government’s commitment to addressing clean water supply issues and safeguarding the well-being of the people.
