SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch has successfully organised a three-day Community Appreciation Programme that concluded on Wednesday (June 17), benefitting residents within the Bawang Assan constituency with a total of 4,000 bottles of 2kg cooking oil.

Branch chairman, Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie said the programme was organised as a gesture of appreciation to thank the community for its long-standing support, trust and encouragement.

“The programme received an encouraging response from the public, and our service team successfully completed the distribution over three days, ensuring that the appreciation gifts reached all eligible recipients,” he added.

“Although the number of gifts was limited and the response was overwhelming, resulting in some shortcomings during the implementation of the programme, I am grateful that the vast majority of participants showed understanding, patience and cooperation, allowing the programme to be carried out smoothly. For that, I would like to express my sincere appreciation.”

Lau noted that the cooking oil was made available through a registration process conducted in May for residents of the Bawang Assan constituency. The allocation was fully taken up shortly after registration opened.

On the final day of the programme, he and members of the branch team visited communities in Lebaan, Empawah, Sungai Sadit, Engkilo, Sungai Bidut, Tanjung Kunyit and Paradom to deliver the appreciation gifts.

Lau, who is also SUPP Youth chief, also extended his appreciation to all members of Bawang Assan SUPP service team for their dedication throughout the programme.

Residents gather at the distribution event.

“The success of this programme would not have been possible without the contribution of every team member. Their sense of responsibility, teamwork and commitment to serving the community truly reflect the service-oriented values that we uphold,” he said.

He also thanked local councillors, penghulu, kapitan and Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) for their assistance in coordinating and facilitating the distribution process, as well as sponsors.

Looking ahead, he said the branch would continue to seek additional resources and support from various sectors to organise more community-based and welfare-oriented programmes, strengthen engagement with grassroots communities, and contribute towards the continued development of the Bawang Assan constituency.
