KUCHING: A total of 80 exhibitors are participating in a large-scale exhibition currently held at the MetroCity Convention Centre (MCCC) in the N6 Tupong area.

The exhibition, organised by Sustainable Management Sdn Bhd, is being held at a newly constructed convention space using a canopy structure, which allows for a more cost-effective setup and affordable rental rates for exhibitors.

“In this event, we are witnessing something very exciting here in N6 Tupong, a large-scale event where the MetroCity Convention Centre has been built using canopies. This, of course, reduces costs, which in turn allows organisers to offer more affordable prices to exhibitors,” said chief political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

He said this to the reporters at the soft opening of MetroCity Convention Centre at Metrocity Matang here yesterday (June 6).

“This opens up opportunities for companies from all sectors to participate in such a major exhibition,” he said.

He added that while Kuching currently has the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) for large exhibitions, MetroCity provides an alternative venue that offers competitive pricing, giving more exhibitors access to the market.

“The MetroCity Convention Centre has a total capacity of 10,000 visitors and can also accommodate concerts of a similar scale. The venue is permanent, and plans are underway to further expand and develop the site, although future enhancements may lead to higher rental fees,” he added.

Fazzrudin, who is the Tupong assemblyman, highlighted the positive impact of the convention centre on the local community.

“The impact is not only in providing affordable opportunities for exhibitors but also in attracting large crowds. When there’s a big event, more people come. And when they come here, they will also visit the MetroCity night market, nearby shops, and stalls. The spillover effect benefits the entire local economy,” he said.

He emphasised that fostering private sector-driven growth with innovative ideas is key to driving the local economy, enabling the community to reap its benefits.
