KUCHING: Slightly over 50 percent of the eligible population of Serian division had registered for the Covid-19 immunisation programme through their village heads and community leaders (KMKK).

On the other hand, 3.2 percent of the population had rejected or declined the vaccination offer.

“However, some had given it a second thought after they saw our state leaders, health director and other VVIPs getting vaccination,” Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus told New Sarawak Tribune today (March 12).

He also said that those under MySejahtera had not been accounted for, but he wants to make sure that the information about the vaccination is known to everyone especially in housing areas, rental houses and surrounding areas.

“I was informed by the community leaders that the issue was that those residing in residential parks and rental houses are facing some problem with the registration due to having no smartphones or not tech-savvy.

“As for the village and longhouse areas, the Serian District Office had been doing well in relaying information and assistance to the local community.

“I chaired a meeting with various parties at Serian Resident Office today (March 12) where we deliberated on gathering information about vaccine recipients as a means to assist the local people to register for the immunisation programme,” he explained.

He also said his parties would seek help from the Information Department, local councils and Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) to assist in disseminating information for the vaccination registration.
