KUCHING: The Persatuan Anak Istimewa Sarawak (Perais) welcomes the vaccination programme for people with disabilities (OKU) which was implemented on a drive-through basis at the Normah Medical Specialist Centre (NMSC) on Saturday (June 19).

Its president Rapelson Richard Hamit said the vaccination process was OKU-friendly and it was convenient for the disabled to receive their vaccine.

“There are Perais members who have received their jabs at NMSC, including Society for the Blind Malaysia (Sarawak branch) chairman Isak Ngau and 100 others.

“Some of our members received their appointment through the MySejahtera app while others received theirs through their respective village development and security committee,” he said on Sunday (June 20).

Rapelson added that he had been given his appointment through the MySejahtera app and had taken his jab at the vaccination centre (PPV) at Siburan Community Hall, Serian on June 17.

“I am very impressed with the vaccination process there. The staff at the PPV have performed their duties in an orderly, systematic and friendly manner,” he said.

He also urged those (OKU) who have yet to register or received their vaccination appointment to inform directly to the Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK).

“They can also send in their details to our association and we can submit it to the responsible party,” he said.

Meanwhile, KWKPK Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said a total of 331 OKU have received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine at NMSC on Saturday (June 19).

She said by next week, the second group of about 300 OKU, who are on the vaccination list, would receive their shots.

The vaccination programme for the OKU was organised by the specialist centre in collaboration with the ministry.
