MIRI: The Social Welfare Office of the Miri Division will organise the Sign Language Course Programme 2022 from August 21 to 22 at Imperial Palace Hotel, here.
According to the Social Welfare Office, the programme will be officiated by Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Development (Women and Childhood Development) Datuk Rosey Yunus.
“There will be about 55 participants consisting of Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) staff members, namely the Miri, Bintulu, Limbang, Lawas Divisions and Community Rehabilitation Centres (PPDK) for the North Zone, namely PPDK Miri, PPDK Sunflower, PPDK Morsjaya, PPDK Bekenu, PPDK Batu Niah, PPDK Eda Beran, PPDK Gemilang, PPDK Bintulu, PPDK Sinaran Kasih Tatau, PPDK Limbang and PPDK Lawas.
“This programme is organised for the JKMS target group and is a social capacity building training that aims to provide basic training and guidance on how to use sign language,” the office said in a press statement yesterday.
It said that the objective of the course is to encourage participants to communicate with those who have hearing problems by using effective and correct sign language.
“The course is also to improve the skills of JKMS staff officers and PPDK staff in communicating with the hearing impaired and being able to treat this group well.
“Besides that the course also aims for participants to learn more on effective communication techniques in order to interact better with the hearing impaired in the community,” the statement said.
