MUKAH: Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine gave his thumbs up to the boutique airline initiative by the Sarawak government, saying it was a wise step for the future of the state.

He said the airline would be able to further spur tourism activities in Sarawak, thus having a big impact on the state’s economy.

“Sarawak is rich in biodiversity, is multiracial, multicultural and unique.

“I believe there are many products in Sarawak that can attract tourists,” he said.

“Taking for example, Thailand and Indonesia, who have developed their economies through tourism activities, so it is not impossible that Sarawak does so.

“Through this boutique airline, to some extent, it will also enliven the aviation industry in the country. Flight tickets may be cheaper and it promotes a healthy competition between the other airlines.

“So it is appropriate that we support such efforts so that the community will also receive the economic benefits.”

Earlier, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak would have a boutique airline and would operate according to its own model, and not according to existing airlines such as AirAsia and MAS.
