Man succumbs to injuries following fatal collision

MUKAH: A 50-year-old motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries following a fatal two-vehicle collision along KM30, Jalan Tian-Pergau, yesterday (Jan 14).

In addition, a 36-year-old pillion rider sustained severe injuries and is currently being treated at Sibu Hospital.

The accident involving a motorcycle and a cement lorry, happened around 2.30pm when both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.

Matu Daro police chief DSP Neil Beginda said the collision occurred when the motorcycle ridden by the victim and his pillion rider is believed to have swerved and collided with an oncoming lorry driven by a 31-year-old man.

“As a result, the victim, along with his pillion rider, sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Daro Hospital for immediate treatment.

“However, the victim, identified as Johnny Rabar, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment,” he said.

His body was later taken to the forensic unit for post-mortem, while the pillion rider was taken to Sibu Hospital for further treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
