Police hunt for two armed robbery suspects

MIRI: The police are tracking down another two suspects in connection with an armed robbery at a convenience store in Tanjong Kidurong, Bintulu on Thursday morning.

One of the suspects, aged 27, a local male, was detained by the police on Friday morning, less than 24 hours after the incident at a traffic light intersection in Luak Bay at around 11.54 am.

“The suspect was detained in a police encounter at the traffic light intersection,” Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri told reporters here.

He added a team of Miri and Bintulu Criminal Investigation department (CID) personnel in plain clothes managed to intercept the car which was driven by the suspect.

A video on the arrest with a duration of 2.19 minutes had gone viral in WhatApps chats since yesterday.

Azman said the suspect and his two friends were believed to be involved in a series of robbery cases targeting mini market shops in Bintulu and their latest heist was on March 16 at around 4.30 am in Tanjong Kidurong.

The suspects carted away cash amounting RM1,000 and two units of handphones.

“Two suspects who are still at large both have criminal and drugs abuse records, one of the them has 22 records in drug abuse activities and another one has nine criminal records,” Azman said.

After the press conference, Azman presented certificates of appreciations to 33 police officers from various ranks for their involvement in Ops Lusuh, Ops Lejang, Ops Kontraban including arresting the armed robbery suspect at Luak traffic light intersection.
