SIBURAN: The search for two Indonesian detainees, who escaped from the Tapah police station on Monday (June 12), has been intensified with assistance from the Sarawak General Operations Force’s (GOF) Tiger Platoon.

During a press conference on Tuesday (June 13), Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri revealed that a total of 110 officers and policemen are involved in the operation, codenamed ‘Op Kesan’, with the search radius extended up to 5km.

The K9 unit of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and the Police Air Wing Unit’s Drone Unit have also joined the search efforts to track down the duo.

“Roadblocks have been set up in the Padawan area, with personnel from Beratok, Tapah, Batu Kawa, Mile 10, and Siburan police stations involved.

“Further checks will be conducted in the bordering districts of Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Bau, Lundu, Lubok Antu, and Sri Aman.”

Addressing a viral video allegedly showing the escapees fleeing to Kampung Mambong, Commissioner Mohd Azman said his men would verify the information before deploying an investigative team to track down the suspects. No reports from the public have been received thus far.

The public have been urged to promptly provide any information regarding the suspicious individuals to assist the authorities in capturing them.

The escapees, identified as 21-year-old Kelvin and 31-year-old Bony from East Java, were arrested for immigration-related offences on June 7, and were in the Tapah police station lock-up for further investigation prior to their breakout.

Anyone with information or who comes across the escapees is urged to contact the operations room at the Padawan district police headquarters (IPD) at 082-862233 or any nearby police station.
