KUCHING: The State Library has been chosen as the venue for the World Heart Day celebration on Sept 24.

Organising chairperson and board member of the Sarawak Heart Foundation, Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, hopes the event will attract at least 2,000 people.

“World Heart Day serves as a reminder to everyone around the world to take good care of their heart health. We are eagerly looking forward to seeing the public’s support, just like in previous years,” she said here yesterday.

Jamilah said the theme for this year’s World Heart Day is “Use Heart Know Heart,” which emphasises the importance of key steps in heart care.

Various activities, exhibitions and exciting prizes have been lined up to make the event memorable.

One of the highlights is the “Walk-A-Mile” event, which requires a registration fee of RM10 and participants will receive Sarawak Heart Foundation T-shirts and breakfast.

A lucky draw will also be held, featuring prizes such as a 55-inch television, refrigerator, washing machine and other household items.

Jamilah added that the Sarawak Heart Centre will provide free health screenings for the public starting at 8 am.

“These health screenings cover body mass index, blood glucose, cholesterol, and health counseling with doctors. Participants who wish to undergo health screening are advised to fast for at least six hours before the finger prick blood test for more accurate results,” she said.

Additionally, there will be a fitness tests conducted by physiotherapists from the Sarawak Heart Centre and breast self-examination assistance provided by the Sarawak Breast Cancer Support Group.

Therefore, she encouraged the public to attend as a sign of support and to champion World Heart Day.

“Let’s work together to promote and build a heart-healthy community in Sarawak,” she said.
