KUCHING: Former Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s passing is a great loss not only to Sarawak but also to the nation, said Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
The federal Women, Family and Community Development Minister expressed her condolences to the family of the former Head of State and former Chief Minister who passed away at approximately 4.40 am this morning at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
Nancy said Taib had dedicated his entire life to the development and prosperity of Sarawak
She also added that on a personal level, she would fondly remember Taib for guiding her when she became an MP in 2008.
“From Allah we came and to Allah we shall return and only Allah can return every good deed and effort of the late Taib.
“O Allah, forgive his sins, bestow your mercy upon him, grant him peace, and pardon him. Honour his death, widen his grave, place his soul among the souls of the believers, and grant patience to his family,” she said in her Facebook post today.
Sarawak today mourns the loss of an incredible leader, and has declared a two-day mourning period on Feb 21 and 22.
All official functions involving entertainment events are postponed and Sarawak flags are to be flown at half-mast.
